How to configure top bar dropdown menu to show bluetooth switch even when off? (20.04.3 LTS)

By Emma Terry

I'm a new user, switching from Windows, and I'm still learning to do stuff here. Issue at hand: That drop-down menu at the top right of the screen? The one at the top bar with icons for wi-fi, audio and battery? When I click it, I can see the bluetooth switch, but only if bluetooth is on. As soon as I click to disable bluetooth, the switch disappears, and I have to navigate to the settings app to turn it on again.

This is a problem because: My physical keyboard is acting up, and I sometimes have to connect a bluetooth keyboard to use any input at all. If the switch is off, I could get locked out at the login screen, with no way to re-enable bluetooth unless I buy another physical keyboard.

As a temporary workaround, is there any way I can configure that drop-down menu so that the bluetooth switch is permanently available, even when bluetooth is off?

Edit: I tried this workaround, but it still requires you to alt+f2 r to bring back the bluetooth switch, which, in my case, would be impossible. Please tell me if I should revert those changes.
